How OLD am I Getting ??

My husband is on the computer in the dining room and I got stuck with my daughter's lap top.

Had to wake her up when I got home just to get her password, which she obviously changes on a daily basis or a "whim."

It took me thirty minutes to just get online and then I realized that she has cluttered up the thing so much I had to restart, delete all temporary files, passwords and cookies and begin again.

It took me thirty more minutes to set up "cc cleaner" so that some of this will be done automatically for her. REMIND ME TO NEVER BUY A LAP TOP FOR A TWELVE YEAR OLD.

My husband went to a career management counselor today and I begrudgingly went with him. After two hours I began to agree with my husband that this could be a good move. The guy has an MBA from Harvard and made some really good points. So we have invested in this man investing in my husband.

We are at a breaking point and considered our options...go it alone or pay someone to help him find the job that I know he deserves. If it works out the money will be well spent...if we don't try how will we ever know? There is an "out" in the contract that says after the third meeting if we don't feel like it is a workable option we can walk away and get all of our money back except $300.00.

After much thought and discussion...and after I made the guy bring up the BBB site about his company (which had an A plus rating) we signed the deal. I feel this is the best way to go and given the current state of the economy. I feel better having this professionally taken care of and they are obligated to help us for a year from today. If they find him a job and he doesn't feel comfortable after a couple of months, we can go back to them and they will start the entire process over.

Besides that weighing on my mind, when have I become sooo old that using a lap top throws me off so much? I can't remember how to move the cursor over the sentence I am working on, I am constantly having to correct typos that I never had to before and pretty much killing myself just to make a simple post. I am so honed into my PC that when I have to get on the lap top it is like having to fly a Boeing 747 without the instruction manual or one day of training.

GIVE ME BACK MY MOUSE!!

This lap top gig has me correcting my mistakes more than writing what I want.

At least now that I have been forced to use it I have cleaned up my daughter's computer and installed some tools that will keep her current and virus free. I am just so used to my PC that when I have to use this "new fangled contraption" I find it is almost a chore to use the internet.

HOW OLD AM I ANYWAY ??

This isn't helping my confidence but at least I have cleaned up the mess that my kid has made with the most expensive toy I have ever been stupid enough to buy her. Heck, I should have just bought her a tank and said "Now you be CAREFUL WITH THIS...YA HEAR?"

Thank the Lord Tim is off the PC and I can go check this post...that I have had to make at least 50 corrections on, and go back to using a mouse (HEY at least I use a wireless mouse) and get back to some semblance of the "ole fart" that I enjoy being.,

BTW...just hit a button and thought that I lost this entire post!

This was the most excruciating post I have ever made... and the most eye opening experience that I am "still OLD school".

CALGON...TAKE ME AWAY!!!

Since when is a PC considered"OLDSCHOOL"....and as I said "When did I turn into such a fuddy buddy?"

After one in the morning, started posting at eleven, Let's at least hope this makes it online.

DANG...I AM getting old!!

Modern Technology ?!!!

just got off the internet...DANG it's hard sometimes. I was chatting with one of my cousins via Facebook. She is probably in her mid fifties, me approaching my fifties more quickly than I planned.

We chatted about her mom (my aunt) and about a funeral for a close family friend that I had attended recently.

When I finally typed that I had to get offline to go finish cleaning the kitchen, it struck me ! When I was a kid in the late sixties, you could have told me I would be living on Mars by now before I would believe the advances that we have ACTUALLY made.

When I was a kid, modern technology was "ATARI" and the game "Pong". We would play it on our black and white TV set for hours, mesmerized by the way we seemed to be really playing a game of tennis by holding a bulky controller and punching a button.

When my dad bought a car with electric windows, I thought we were millionaires. Actually the car was a station wagon and the only window that was electric was the back tailgate window. He brought it home the day before we left on vacation. We showed it off to all our friends in the neighborhood...time and time again.

When we all got up at 4:30 AM to leave for Florida, the station wagon's engine couldn't even offer a groan...we kids had drained the battery completely. We all got out to push the wagon off to jump start it...much to my Dad's anger and dismay. But HEY..we got to Florida didn't we?

I remember when phones switched from rotary to push button... Of course we were last in line to get this new fangled phone. I was so jealous when I would go to one of my friend's house and they whizzed in a number and were connected before my own home phone would still be ticking off the rotary clicks and we would be left waiting for the dial to slowly tick back around. (Think how Opie felt when he had to pick up the phone and ask Sarah to connect him to the Sheriff's office in Mayberry)...that is the way I felt...we were living in the Fintstone years when everyone else was zooming along in the Jetson years.

When we got a dishwasher installed, I thought that we were "Moving on up"!! When we finally got a car with air conditioning I just knew my Dad had "Made it"!!

In my house as a kid, the stereo was a piece of furniture almost as big as a couch. It played records...78's 45's or the newest craze...albums.

That crazy new wave of eight track tapes hit first, followed by the amazing cassette tape era.

I had switched from my standard transistor radio (Skinny Bobby Harper on Quixie) to stereo listening... when I bought my first "Real" stereo, I bought Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon and was amazed how the sound bounced from speaker to speaker. I thought that we were at our technology peak.

I sit here now wondering how we have zoomed through the years and found ourselves in this new world...typing, texting and tweeting...for the love of me I can't imagine how my obit will read...to post your condolences...please switch to this hyper link to phase in your remarks..."someone beam me up" because I feel like I am "WAY" in over my old fashioned head.

Little did I know ... thirty years later I would sit at a keyboard and connect with friends in Kuwait, friends all over the U.S. and find friends I haven't heard from in years. Little did I know that I would have a blog that I hear comments on from people in the U.K. people in New York and people that I never knew existed.

How do we get from electric car windows to this cyber world that seems to almost reach out and touch you with a few simple pecks on a keyboard?

Finally...AN American !!!

Still having computer problems.

I called back to my internet provider, this time using the automated service (the fake voice).

I fixed my problem, being led through the process with the help of prompting by a voice that is on every other message machine.

I faltered once, when the voice asked me to say "continue" and I said something to my daughter in the background.

I was at once sent to a "live" operator who magically answered the line saying "This is Bob, can I help you"?

I was just thrilled even hearing the name "Bob".

I asked him if he was in the United States, and was just giddy with his answer of "YES".

This man solved all of my problems in under five minutes, gave me more practical and usable advice than I had been given on my last five calls to my internet server.

He apologized for the "out sourcing" and gave me more help than I thought that I could ever get from anyone .

I have called my husband's best friend, who is a "Big Wig" with Charter, and he said that he could access my account and find out who I talked to.

I want to give this guy not only a big kiss, but a letter in his file that shows how much customer satisfaction and help he gave to me...I hope that someone at least gives him a slap on the back, and tells him how GREAT of a job he is doing.

He solved my internet problems, taught me many proactive things that I can do to prevent further obstacles and in essence... saved me from "Crashing" on my computer and websites ( God forbid I lose my blog).

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

I asked him what his extension number was (just for future reference) and he did not have one.

But I have put out a call to his superior so that I can give him a glowing and heartfelt commendation.

In today's world of internet technology and razzle dazzle, that I am too old to know, this man helped me more than I have been helped since I learned how to send an email.

At least my big mouth is "BACK ON LINE" and expect the spewing to keep on coming.

That may be a good thing , or it may be a bad thing.... YOU decide!!
